The Best Dogs From Your Favorite Holiday Movies

‘Tis the season to get into the Holiday spirit! One of the season's greatest traditions is cuddling up by the fire with hot cocoa to watch a classic film. Among these holiday movies, there are tons of heroic, cute, silly, and memorable dogs that bring us smiles. Here are some of the best dogs from your favorite holiday movies.

Max (How the Grinch Stole Christmas)

Though many debate whether the original 1966 Chuck Jones version or the Jim Carrey version is the superior movie, no one can deny the star power of Max in the original version. His big heart and adorable shrugs have been stealing our hearts for decades and for holidays to come.

Snoopy (A Charlie Brown Christmas)

One of the world’s most famous dogs graces us each year with his antics. Dancing and winning Christmas decorating contests, Snoopy is one of our favorite dogs from the holiday classics.

Rowlf (The Muppet Christmas Carol)

This piano-loving dog is a classic character from The Muppets. Though he only shows up for a scene at Foziwig’s Annual Christmas Party, Rowlf still shows off his signature skills. Sing along with this great adaptation of Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol.

Zero (A Nightmare Before Christmas)

Is this a Christmas movie or a Halloween movie? It doesn’t matter, as long as you are feeling festive and joyful whenever you watch it. Zero is Jack Skellington’s loveable ghost-dog companion in this classic holiday mismatch.

Beethoven (Beethoven's Christmas Adventure)

When a Christmas Elf accidentally crash lands Santa’s sleigh in a small town, losing the magic toy bag, who better to save Christmas than the large, loveable Beethoven? Each year, we get to smile and laugh through Beethoven’s antics.

The Bumpus Hounds (A Christmas Story)

While not the best-behaved dogs, the Bumpus Hounds are a continual nuisance to Mr. Parker, even stealing his Christmas turkey, forcing the family to enjoy a nice dinner at the Chinese restaurant.

Cornelius’ Sled Dogs (Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer)

In Rankin & Bass’ classic stop-motion special, Yukon Cornelius, the fearless prospector, employs an adorable team of sled dogs. Except these hard-working dogs aren’t your normal Siberian Huskies; they’re comprised of a Saint Bernard, a dachshund, a sheltie, a black poodle, and a beagle. Even dogs can steal the show from the season’s most famous reindeer.

Olive (Olive the Other Reindeer)

This little-known special follows Olive (voiced by Drew Barrymore) as a Christmas-loving dog who thinks she can save Christmas when one of Santa’s reindeer gets hurt. Of course, dogs are capable of anything.

Lady and the Tramp (Lady and the Tramp)

The classic Disney animated romance is not your typical Christmas movie, but what more could the season be about than love? This timeless movie is worth revisiting every holiday season.

Barney (Gremlins)

Looking for some scares this holiday? Barney is the pet of the Peltzer family in this 80s horror film about the mythological gremlins who leave Barney tied up in Christmas lights.
