It isn’t far-fetched to assume the founders of a dog daycare and boarding franchise would be raised in a house of canines.
But New Jersey brothers Jason and Steven Parker’s childhood couldn’t be further from that fantasy.
“Growing up, we always wanted a dog,” Jason Parker said. “We were very passionate about dogs, but our parents were just not dog people. … We tried to do everything we could: making the honor roll, doing our chores, behaving very well. Our parents were just not budging on the ‘no dog’ rule.”
To get their fix, they began dog-watching duties for a neighbor at just 12 and 14 years old. Their love for the then-hobby progressed into creating a professional pet-sitting and dog-walking business, laying the foundation for what would eventually become K9 Resorts, which the Parker brothers co-founded in 2005.
More than 20 years later, they continue to lead the company as co-CEOs.
