Anchor Point Management Group to Introduce Premium Dog Boarding & Daycare Concept to the Portland Area While Expanding in Southwest Washington
PORTLAND, Ore. — K9 Resorts Luxury Pet Hotel, the award-winning luxury dog boarding and daycare brand, is set to enter the Oregon market through a nine-unit development agreement with Anchor Point Management Group, one of the nation’s largest multi-unit franchise operators. The agreement will bring several K9 Resorts locations to communities across the greater Portland area, introducing the brand to pet owners in Oregon while expanding its presence in nearby Southwest Washington.
Initial development plans call for resorts across the greater Portland region, with locations under consideration in Vancouver, Washington, as well as throughout the Portland metropolitan area, including Beaverton, Hillsboro, Lake Oswego and Gresham. The first locations are expected to open within the next 15 to 18 months.
“K9 Resorts immediately stood out as we began evaluating opportunities in the pet care space,” said Joe Janaszek Jr., senior director of brand strategy and profit at Anchor Point Management Group. “We’ve spent years building restaurant and service brands, but we’re always looking for concepts with strong consumer demand and a clear premium position. The quality of the facilities, outdoor play areas and overall experience for dogs are on a completely different level. As a dog owner myself, it’s the only concept I would feel comfortable trusting with my own pets.”
Janaszek will lead the development of the new K9 Resorts locations alongside Tom Cook and Wray Hutchinson as part of Anchor Point Management Group’s multi-brand franchise platform, which includes more than 500 locations across 12 brands nationwide. The group’s portfolio spans several major restaurant and service concepts, including Taco Bell, Buffalo Wild Wings, European Wax Center and 7 Brew. With a strong presence in the Portland market, Anchor Point Management Group owns and operates all Buffalo Wild Wings locations in the area, which Hutchinson began developing in the early 2000s, in addition to Portland-based Von Ebert Brewing, which was founded by Cook in 2018.
Beyond expanding the brand’s footprint in the Pacific Northwest, the Anchor Point team plans to become actively involved in the local pet community. Janaszek said the group intends to partner with local animal shelters and organizations such as the Humane Society to help socialize rescue dogs and support pet welfare initiatives throughout the region.
“K9 Resorts was built around the idea that pet parents should have access to the same level of care and comfort for their dogs that they expect from a luxury hotel,” said Scott Schubiger, chief growth officer of K9 Resorts. “As we’ve grown, we’ve been very intentional about entering new markets alongside operators who understand what it takes to deliver that level of luxury. From our earliest conversations with Joe and the Anchor Point team, it was clear they shared that vision. Their leadership and operational depth will play an important role as we establish the K9 Resorts brand throughout the Pacific Northwest.”
Founded in 2005, K9 Resorts was created to redefine traditional dog boarding and daycare by delivering a truly elevated, resort-style experience centered on trust, safety and peace of mind for pet parents. The concept features cage-free luxury suites and executive rooms, spacious private accommodations, premium bedding and enrichment-focused programming designed to support the physical and emotional well-being of every dog. K9 Resorts has since become the most awarded luxury pet hotel brand in the industry, earning recognition as a six-time recipient of the Pet Care Excellence Award, one of the pet care industry’s top honors, while continuing to expand its differentiated model through franchising with experienced multi-unit operators nationwide.
Today, K9 Resorts operates 48 locations, with more than 170 resorts open or in development systemwide as demand for premium pet care continues to grow. The brand continues to expand its franchise network and is actively seeking experienced operators interested in developing multiple locations and building a meaningful presence in their markets.
